How to Finger Knit a Super Cozy Chunky Blanket – No Needles, No Hooks, Beginner Friendly!

Want a big, squishy blanket in just a few hours with zero knitting or crochet experience? Today I’m showing you the easiest way to make a gorgeous chunky blanket using only your fingers and Sensy’s luxurious chunky yarn. This is genuinely one of the most satisfying projects ever – perfect for beginners!

What You’ll Need

  • Sensy Chunky Yarn (or any super-bulky / jumbo yarn – level 6 or 7) Colors used in this blanket: Cinnamon, Latte, Ecru, and Brown
  • Just your hands! (Seriously, that’s it)

Approximate blanket size: ~50″ × 60″ (perfect TV/snuggle size) Time: 3–5 hours depending on size and speed

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Cast On Your Starting Chain

  1. Make a slip knot and place it on your right hand.
  2. With your left hand, pull a new loop through the slip knot (like making a chain in crochet, but with fingers).
  3. Pass that new loop to your right hand.
  4. Repeat until your chain is the desired width of your blanket (for a 50″ blanket, I did about 40–45 stitches). Pro tip: Lay the chain on the floor to measure – it will stretch a bit later.

Step 2: Row 1 (First Row of Knitting)

  1. Working from left to right, pull a new loop from your working yarn through the second stitch from your hand (skip the first stitch).
  2. Place that new loop on your right hand.
  3. Continue all the way across. You now have a new row of stitches on your hand!

Step 3: Keep Going (Every Following Row)

  1. Always skip the first stitch (it acts like a selvage).
  2. Pull a new loop through each remaining stitch, from left to right.
  3. When you reach the end, turn your work and go back the other way. That’s literally it – just pulling loops through loops!

Step 4: Color Changes (Optional but Gorgeous)

  • When you’re ready to switch colors, simply drop the old color and start pulling loops with the new color.
  • I did big blocks of each color: Cinnamon → Latte → Ecru → Brown.
  • No need to cut or weave in ends yet – we’ll tidy those later.

Step 5: Bind Off / Finishing

  1. Work across the row as usual, but only pull one loop through at a time.
  2. After pulling a new loop through a stitch, pull that same new loop through the next stitch on your hand (like a simple bind-off).
  3. Continue until one loop remains. Cut the yarn and pull the tail through the last loop.
  4. Weave in all tails with your fingers (super easy with chunky yarn).

And you’re done! Admire your beautiful, squishy, giant-knit blanket. It’s incredibly warm and looks way more impressive than the effort it took!

Final Thoughts This finger-knitting technique is addictive – once you start, you won’t want to stop. Perfect cozy project for movie nights while you’re… making a blanket for movie nights! 😄
